Common questions

Will my photo actually be accepted at the embassy or post office?
PassportSnap is a convenience tool that applies publicly available specifications for each country. However, we take no responsibility for whether your photo is accepted by any embassy, consulate, post office, or government authority. Requirements can change at any time, and final acceptance is always at the sole discretion of the issuing authority. Before taking and adjusting your photo, you should always verify the current requirements directly from the official source for your country — links are provided in the app for each country. PassportSnap bears no liability for photos that are not accepted.
What photo should I start with?
Start by reviewing the official photo requirements for your country — the app provides a link to each country's official source. Use a recent photo with a plain white or light background, facing forward with a neutral expression. The higher the resolution of your source photo the better — ideally taken with a modern smartphone camera or high quality digital camera. Avoid filters or retouching.
What do the compliance warnings mean?
The live compliance checker verifies resolution (DPI), pixel dimensions, and file size against your selected country's requirements as you adjust. If the crop area doesn't have enough pixels, or the estimated file size falls outside the allowed range, the tool will warn you with specific suggestions — like zooming out, using a higher-resolution source, or photographing closer to the subject. At export, the app automatically adjusts JPEG compression to fit file size limits.
How do I print the photo sheet at a lab?
Download the 4″×6″ print sheet and take the file to any photo printing service or local photo lab. Order a standard 4×6 print without borders. The sheet includes two photos with cut guides so you can trim them after printing.
Why doesn't PassportSnap remove backgrounds or enhance my photo?
Most government agencies explicitly require unaltered photographs. Digitally removing backgrounds, retouching skin, adjusting lighting, or applying filters can lead to your photo being rejected. PassportSnap intentionally only crops and resizes your image so the final result is an authentic, unmodified photo that meets official requirements.
Is this really free? What's the catch?
Yes, PassportSnap is currently free as an introductory special. There are no hidden fees or watermarks. However, we may introduce paid plans or pricing in the future, so take advantage while it lasts.
